Walk in the Park

Spring in Texas - superb! 

McKinney State Park was beautiful with flowers and cacti.

We walked around the water, but Byam wanted to swim.

We had a great day at the lake.  Byam was enjoying our walks around the campground and,really wanted to get into the water.  She does not like to jump in - she likes to carefully walk into water.  For her, knowing the water depth is important.  I wish I'd had the camera when we were on the dock.  She leaned over the edge beyond the point of no return.  Then her eyes got  huge and our time on the dock ended with a wet dog.

Finally. Got to Swim.

About a half hour after her swim in the river at the campground., Byam's run in the field ended with a bath in the Airstream's shower.

No Dogs on Beach - No Lifeguard

Maybe not having a lifeguard is a good reason to keep dogs off the beach.  Iowa is not yet a dog tourist friendly state.

Colorado is Almost as Dog Friendly as Before

 A few years ago we stopped at this restaurant to eat with our beloved first Brittany Spaniel, and had a nice meal.  Policy has changed.

As we had to eat - we stayed.  Here is a photo of S taking a photo of our little Byam girl - limited to a tree on the other side of the black chain.  We did have a nice lunch.

So as Byam left the restaurant with her still empty stomach, she immediately got to take a little wading in the stream just outside the restaurant.  I'm glad that dogs forgive...because if you promised me a nice lunch at a restaurant, then made me sit outside without food...while you ate - well I would absolutely not be happy.  Byam is so very loving, she was just ready to move on to our next adventure.

Summer of 2012 - Mackinac Island with Byam

 

Dogs are welcome here!  Thank you Michigan - great place to vacation if your family includes your puppy.  We listed to the information about the canons.  When we watched the demonstration on the parade grounds.  Byam was a bit bored there listening to all that talking and trying to stay still...until the very end when the guns were fired.  She was pulling at her leash to get over to the bushes and spent half an hour searching for pheasants.

 

We took a break from looking at the fort on Mackinac Island to wade in Lake Superior.

 Byam is a member of our family.  She is a dog. Dogs are technically pets, but she sure does not act like a mere pet.  No pets on the beach.  Again.

 

Just down the way, off the beach, we had much more fun in the water!

Look at the sand fly!  Byam had the best time digging in the sand, and spent a bit of time in the very clear water of Lake Superior.

Finally a chance to swim!

Again - No Dogs Allowed on the Beach

Byam is considered a pet, not to us as she is a member of the family.  But rules are rules, even for Brittany Spaniels.  We did find another spot on Don Willams Lake, where dogs have entered for a  wade or swim for years.  This weekend we also learned the difference between chipmunks and ground squirrels.  Byam tried to sneak up on any number of ground squirrels with good luck on the ground squirrels' side.

Byam and Sarah - New Friends

Byam has a new friend, Sarah.  She kept Byam busy, happy and wet at the Decorah Iowa campground.  Amazingly Sarah was able to walk with Byam on her leash - without Byam pulling!  What an amazing girl!
